Self-styled gentleman. His motto is "Be Kind to Women, Children and Weak People." However, "Dangerous Women" seem to be an exception to this rule. His so-called gentleman's code is based on his own original values since it doesn't appear that he was born into a respectable family. Also, he's quite a heavy smoker. After work, he can't resist a puff.
His former job was an agent of the International Bureau of Investigations (IBI). He had a partner and close friend back then who had been shot in attempting to save his life, and the gift of premonition was the last thing Sven ever got from him before his death.
His right eye is usually covered up by the black eye patch he wears. When uncovered, he is able to see a few seconds to a few minutes into the future. The downside to this special gift is that it tends to put a strain or drain all the energy out of Sven whenever he has a vision.
He first met Eve in a park the day when she wandered off after not doing as she was told in killing one of Torneo Rudman's failures. Torneo Rudmen, a wealthy crime lord who was rising up in the development of Nanobot technology, was the one who ordered her creation.
Sven first introduced Eve to ice cream, and showed her how to feed the pigeons in the park after that. Surprised to learn that she didn't know a whole lot, Sven made a promise to Eve to show her all the good food the world outside from the clutches of Torneo. When he meets Eve, he befriends her and treats her like a person instead of a weapon, in which she was created to be.
Soon after Eve is found and taken away from Sven, he and thief for hire Rinslet Walker went to Torneo's mansion to rescue Eve. A diversion involving the gathering of many cats got Rinslet and Sven into the mansion. After splitting up, Sven noticed that Black Cat (Train Heartnet) also was there. When Train was still an eraser, his last mission was to kill Eve.
In short, Sven had ended up saving both Eve and Train at the same time. He was badly injured, but recovered. Eve from that night on had been taken under Sven's care, since she didn't have any real family or relatives. Besides, abandoning her would violate his Gentleman's Code, right? Right.
Sven and Annette (a bar mistress and old friend of his) started showing Eve things the world had to offer, like books, and fireworks. When the fireworks festival came along, Eve went off on her own, despite Sven's warning that it was too dangerous, what with the Chronos folks still gunning for her.
Speaking of one of the Chronos folks, Eve and Sven both find Train on the night of the festival saving some children from a burning oil tanker. It exploded and knocked out Train for a whole week. Eve was the one who found him, and helped to take care of him.
Train is now a sweeper and Sven's partner, with Eve in tow.
